From an 11.2oz bottle, secured a few months ago at The Beer Store Nashua.
Pours oily black, dense and opaque. Has a creamy, short, fine beige head, with decent lace. Nose is nice, with choco, cocoa powder and dark fruit like raisins and black cherry. Body is easily medium-plus, with a very smooth feel.
Taste is semisweet, with choco syrup and cocoa powder, plus a hint of molasses. Also has dark fruityness, with more raisins plus dates. A flavorful brew but lacks the typical Struise complexity. Prost!

My first post.
Beer is dark as engine oil. Starts off almost dusty with coffee and cocoa powder, then dark prune comes in. Not as complex and rewarding as some in this style, but still nice mouthfeel and finish. A fine beer I’m happy to be sipping for a while on a winter evening.

On tap at The Sovereign in Washington, DC.
This one pours a very dark black color, with a very small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like coffee, burnt caramel, char, some slight oak, toasted bread, and dark chocolate.
I can’t find a ton of information on what went into this one, but I think it’s oak aged for at least some amount of time. It’s slightly oaky and caramelly, and there’s a very robust roasty and coffee-like vibe all over this. There’s a touch of smoke, and maybe some port-like leather and tobacco.
This is medium bodied, pretty creamy, and just the slightest bit boozy, not in a bad way.
There’s a lot to love about this, and a lot to love in general about De Struise.

Black. Beige head.
Roasted smell, boozy, intense.
The taste is a bit thin (watery), comparing to the smell.
It lacks a bit more strucuture. After that, for sure, roasted, coffee. A lot of raosted, almost burnt in the end,
Slightly peated, some porto hints.
Intense, boozy, important, but it can be drank quite easily.

Superbly black like ink. Head was slight and tan, however it faded quickly. Nose is a lot like a barley wine, with hints of dark fruit and slight charr. Taste is roasted nuts, charr, and burnt sugar. Too much smokey flavor for me. Feel is slightly underwhelming, too.

Bottle. Looks like black coffee with a ring and small islands. Boozy slightly woody chocolate cola aroma. Sweet dark maple syrup caramelized brown sugar with very light tannin tartness and boozy woody finish. Medium body. Slick and oily low carbo. Very good.

Why does Kate get all the praise? Apparently Robert brings a strong stout game to the beer parliament as well. With the guidance of Struise brewers, he can be just as great.
Jet black, frothy in its pour and rounding off with a creamy stubborn crown, Robert the Great releases a roasty malt scent of coffee, cocoa, charred woods and toast with a near smokey sense of robustness. As its taste ensues, a continued malt dominance of burnt sugars reveal dark chocolate, burnt cream and pleasantly over cooked toffee.
With the malt sweetness developing into a roasty, roasty and slightly burnt character, suggestions of baker's chocolate, dark roast coffee, burnt toast and roasting walnut provide an earthy, woodsy and playful soilish character. As the dark ale warms, hints of grille fruits arise with nuances of cherry, dark berry and grape ahead of a warming vodka-like warmth. A balancing bitterness of woods and resins are surprisingly bold with the session closing.
Full bodied, nougat-like and smooth in its smoky roast, the stout finishes roasty-dry and with a long linger of coffee and burnt cream

S - Molasses, char, bakers chocolate, a bit of esspresso aas well
T - Leans toward the char side with the dark roast malts adding a bit of that molasses
M - Medium in body, semi sweet start then a shift toward the bitter side of the scale, excellent linger with dark chocolate driving the boat
O - Classic in style, A delightful stout and one I will be purchasing more of

Pitch black pour with a slight, thin, loose headband sticky foam lace on the glass.
Notes of hazelnut, coffee and chocolate.
Well balanced between the sweetness and the carbonation.
I have to say, another great brew from De Syrups Brouwers. Two thumbs up.

From an 11.2oz bottle, bottled on 10/08/22. ‘Vintage-18/12/‘19.’ Served in a Spiegelau BA tulip glass.
Pours a relatively thin appearing, caramel tinged coffee color. A scant finger of loose mocha head holds up for a few seconds and leaves an easily rousable sheet of sudsy lacing.
Nose is rich, robust, fruity, earthy. Aromas of raisins and molasses.
Taste is sharper and even earthier than anticipated. Tasting sulphered molasses, charred barley, cocoa powder and stewed prunes. Sharp minerality is evident in the finish.
Feel is smooth, medium but maybe light bodied relative to the style and with brighter, zestier carbonation than I think is typical in a big stout.
Overall, a clean drinking, highly flavorful stout that is neither particularly sweet nor dry and drinks like a porter half it’s abv. Nice.

Pours a small fizzy brown head with fair retention, fair lacing, decent legs, pitch black color
Nose sweet burnt marshmallow, roasted malts, cocoa, dark chocolate, vanilla, baking spices, a bit of a sweet fruity note, earthy spicy hops
Taste brings lush cocoa, dark chocolate, choc ganache, big roast, bordering acrid but not quite, burnt marshmallow and some coffee dust, raw cocoa bean with some fruity characters as well, baking spices, a bit of vanilla spice, getting smokey on the back end. bitter spicy hops in the middle, mild stick sweet finish but a bit drier, bitter spicy roast and hops lingering, and more smoke
Mouth is fuller bod, med carb, a bit creamy chewy, almost no alcohol
Overall falls well within RIS style, though not necessarily my preference

2020 bottle poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a thin layer of off-white head. The nose is amazing. Big notes of tobacco, coffee, dark chocolate, and some black licorice. Some dark roasted malts and a bit of toasted vanilla.
The taste is insane. Dark roasted coffee grounds, chewing tobacco, charred wood, VERY dark chocolate, molasses, and black licorice. Slight dark fruit, but the big roasty notes dominate. This is such a classic RIS with all the right notes. It's big and bold, but super smooth and enjoyable. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy.
No adjuncts, and it's amazing. Highly recommended!

From a 330 ml bottle with a 12/18/19 vintage and a BB date of 8/10/22 + 5 years. Sampled June 16, 2023.
The appearance comes across as a dark brown to near black under a delicate but modest, fading tan head,
An interesting array of dark aromas including dark roasted malts, dark fruit, cherry, cream, and little in the way of alcohol.
High medium to full mouthfeel and creamy in texture.
The flavor is sweet dark roasted malts, cream, thin chocolate, dark fruit, but a mild lingering earthy bitterness. Low alcohol note in taste too.
