Copenhagen 15/5 2022. 33 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse. Orange label with a little mosaic depicting a small Fishermans boat.
Pours opaque, murky dark brown with a small off-white head. Bubbly. Settles as thin rim of foam running along the side of the glass. No lacing.
Aroma is intense with a boozy sweetness mingling with dark fruits. Caramel, toffee. Plums and raisins. Soaked in delicious dark alcohol. Potent and rich.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, soft, a bit greasy, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a boozy twist. Bitter undertone. Lingering. Finish is boozy pleasure.
A fine visit down the old Cognac barrel.

2018 bottle poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with a little bit of head. The nose is definitely dominated by cognac. Amazing. Rich toffee, vanilla, and a bit of molasses. The taste is really interesting. The cognac flavor is mixed with some burnt toast, tobacco, coffee, and dark chocolate. Some toffee, figs, molasses, cherries, and a touch of leather.
I honestly prefer the nose to the taste, but both are still fantastic. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. The aftertaste is fairly sweet. The ABV is nicely hidden.

A 330ml bottle, 2018 vintage, bottled on 3rd November 2020, with a best before date of bottled date +5 years. Poured into a De Struise tulip glass.
Appearance: Dark brown in colour with a thin half finger beige head that had decent retention while leaving some sparse lacing.
Aroma: Sweet malt, cola, dark fruit, plum, licorice, clove, cognac, with slightly roasty chocolate and coffee in the background.
Taste: Moderate sweetness, cola, cognac, caramel, dark dried fruit, plum, prunes, raisin, dates, with light bitter chocolate notes on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.
Overall: The cognac barrel worked well to create a complex, nice and enjoyable sipper.

330 mL bottle. Grand Reserva 2018. Deep brown. Smells of light cola, brown bread, oak, and dark fruits. Tastes of strong wine-like spirits (which I would never have pegged as Cognac without knowing beforehand), oak, sweet dark breads, a little bit of cola, and a long bitter and earthy finish. Medium heavy with low carbonation. The Cognac barrel is integrated very well. All the flavors of the base come through with a distinct barrel character. Very nice.
