Thanks to MasterSki for contributing this to our Epic Chicago Tasting (yeah, I'm behind on reviews).

A - No head on the hard pour. Pours a very dark brown with a little bit of reddish tint. A very deep color, resembles some dead pond water. Not the most attractive beer, but looks hearty.

S - A lot of dark fruit with a bit of lighter sweet fruit, apples or pears I think, in the mix as well. I get a huge vinegar presense on the end of this, which is suprisingly pleasant and adds some bite and depth to this one beyond what it already has. Alcohol is nicely hidden.

T - A lot of dark fruit with some burnt malts/caramel. This reminds me somewhat of Angel's Share for some reason. The vinegar is present, tastes a bit like soured wine, but that is a good thing. Chocolate blends well with everything else.

M - Smooth, kind of flat, but that was expected given how it looked on the pour.

D - Amazing for 16%, I almost wonder if it's not true, don't get much of any alcohol on this at all. Great beer, I was not expecting much given the one review that was up when I drank this but this was a good beer and a pleasant surprise.

Thanks to Alex for brining this super rare bottle to our tasting. 750ml bottle into my Narke tulip...A dirty dark watery brown with no carbonation...The aroma is super sweet, its similar to a quad on steroids, lots of dark fruits some sugar, very nice. The back has a touch of sourness...The taste is light vinegar mixed with dark fruits, its so so close to a quad mixed with some lactic. I love quads so this is really nice to me. Super super super easy drinker at 16%, would never have guessed it unless I saw the bottle.

Thanks to Alex (Masterski) for bringing this monster to our Epic Chicago Tasting. Poured from 750ml bottle into Rochefort tulip. Alex says there were less then 5 of these made? I think. Crazy.

A - Pours a chocolate brown, red hue, very little carbonation. A small amount of bubbles line the glass with no cap on top to speak of and no lacing.

S - Dark fruit, pears, alcohol. The alcohol doesn't seem like 16% at all. Urbaine did a wonderful job of hiding the alcohol in this monster. I'm really digging the fruits...just excellent.

T - Chocolate, alcohol, slight tart/sour, some dark fruit, champagne-esk woody finish. Lots going on here. Moreso then the nose. I love chocolate and dark fruit notes mixed in with the slight tartness.

M - Full, big, huge...a MONSTER! Sticky/rich finish.

D - For 16% this wasn't bad at all. After reading previous reviews, I wasn't expecting much. Alas, I found I enjoyed this one much more that I thought...a very nice surprise during our tasting. Recommend, but don't know if you'll be able to find it.

Big thanks to stowehop for this one. Find it mildly ridiculous that there were only 3-4 bottles of this, and I tried two of them - guessing this might have been the last one. Shared at jrallen34's tasting extravaganza. Served in a Westvleteren chalice.

A - A hard pour yields a crusty wisp of foam that settles to a big-bubbled ring. Near-black body that reveals caramel brown at the fringes when held to the light. There are a few specks of lace that reveal the faintest wisp of carbonation.

S - This is a lot more quad-like than you'd expect from the listed style (although Imperial Flanders Oud Bruin also seems kind of silly). Woody elements mingle with dark fruits, slight vinegar, vinous notes, burnt sugar, and caramel. Where the heck is the alcohol?!

T - Sweet dark fruits, caramel, oaky vanilla, and a light sour red wine vinegar acetic note. Ridiculously smooth, and strangely compelling. Doesn't taste a lot like Earthmonk, but also doesn't suggest anything close to 16%.

M - Slick, oily, with next-to-no carbonation. Very soft, rich, full body. Maybe the faintest bit of heat in the finish.

D - I was halfway expecting everyone to have an ounce, and then the bottle to sit half-full until an ill-advised drunk pulled it out for a game of quarters much later in the evening. Instead many of us, myself included, went back for a refill. Shocking. Still, I'm glad it was shared with friends, because there's no way one could consume this alone.

I asked Urbain how he hid the alcohol so effectively, and he coyly responded - 'What alcohol? =)' Well played, sir.

Huge thanks to Urbain for sending this one over for the ratebeer winter gathering. The guy is a beer geek at heart that goes way out of his way to help the beer community. If you see De Struise buy it. Support the best.

A: Pours a nice brown hue with a small tan head. No retention or lace noted.

S: Rather mild aromas. Lightly sour with hints of an industrial like aroma.

T: Flavor is better than the aroma but still not great. Mild sour berries, caramel, and mild vinegar. The industrial like glue flavor is there as well, and it really takes away from this one.

M: Rather light carbonation for a beer treated with champagne yeast.

D: Not really. Huge thanks to Urbain for sending this one over. Not one of their best, but still honored to try it.
