This listing is for Kate the Great brewed at De Struise, most of which was used in blending Kabert & Special K.

Unlike Portsmouth Kate the Great, this version is aged in Port barrels and not on Port-soaked oak chips.

I think this is the right entry for this beer. From De Struise, but the label is "Kate the Great", not Kabert. Bottle lists ABV at 10%, but LCBO labs apparently have it at 9.7%. 750ml bottle. Aged in port barrels.

Beer is black with a decent sized tan head. The bottle is a gusher, starts to foam immediately. Decent retention.

At first, I mainly got roasted malt, coffee and oak from the scent. As the beer began to warm, dark fruit scents began to enter the picture pretty strongly. Very nice.

Taste consists of dark fruit (raisin, plum, red grape), roasted mat, chocolate, oak and a bit of vanilla. Has a bit of a chocolate covered raisin flavour to it. The oak and fruit is really nice and complements the more typical stout flavours very well. Aftertaste is an interesting mix between sweet and bitter and is very nice. Lovely.

Full bodied, moderate carbonation. A big beer.

Overall, a really good RIS. Especially as it warmed, it was pretty great. I have not had the good fortune to try Portsmouth's KtG nor have I had Black Albert, so I cannot compare it to those beers, but this is a very good one. I can't find much information on it so I am not sure what relationship this has to Kabert- a different beer or a rebranding?
