Named for an infamous corner of the San Francisco Giant’s ballpark, this Belgian-style Tripel is malty with a spicy yeast and hop character.

July 28th, 2015 - Tripels Alley is a light and refreshing beer, with a touch of pilsener and corn on the scent, and some pear juice and white grape on the back end. But the taste is extremely sweet, like sugared pears and refined white grape juice. It's a huge portion of condensed sugar and the rest of the taster gets pushed away.

Golden and clear with about a ½ inch of head. A fair amount of lacing present.

Strong fruit aroma in the form of bananas with apples and pears in the background. Cloves, sugar, earth also on the nose.

Flavor is spicy and a tinge citrusy. Some bitterness and earthy notes as well.

Mouthful is medium and smooth. Carbonation is on the lighter end of medium. Finish is mildly fruit and sweet.

This triple has traditional characteristics and is a good beer but I think there are better examples of the (American) style.

On tap at Sweeneys Ale House in Encino, CA.

Pours a murky golden-orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, earth, spice, and yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with earth, spice, yeast, and slight dried fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice and yeast bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is a basic but solid American take on the style.

Serving type: on tap.

On tap at the Bear Republic brewpub.

Clear golden amber; Excellent clarity; Fine white head leaves patented sticky lacing.

Lots of banana and clove in the aroma, but thse are less pronounced in the better and more complex flavor. Biscuit malt base

Feel: Soft medium+ carbonation; Medium-light body.

O good enough to pass for an actual Belgian.
