Rebellion was created as a single hop pale ale to showcase the characteristics of new hop varietals and old favorites. Always brewed with the same American and English malts and to the same level of bitterness, the soft malt character allows the unique flavor and aroma of the LORALâ„¢ hops to shine. Developed by The Hop Breeding Company, LORALâ„¢ straddles the fence between old and new world hop aromatics. A pleasant, floral aroma is followed by flavors of citrus, spice and tropical fruit. Grown in the USA.

i always get excited when i see new beer from bear republic, especially hoppy stuff, they have been a long time favorite for these types of beers! i am nto sure i have ever had or even heard of loral hops before, must be a new one, and i wish the beer was a little less english malty so that i could appreciate some of the more subtle hop aspects of this varietal, but i like the beer quite a lot as a pale ale, it just doesnt seem a different or interesting as i would have expected from a brand new hop (new to me anyway). grassy at first, sort of noble in its initial aroma and flavor hit, light lime to it as well, but the malt is sturdy enough to try and cover this up fairly quickly with a light bready profile, which oddly enough works with this hop flavor real well, so i dont mind so much. then it moves to a more intense citrus, bringing bitterness, that orange essential oil complexion and more leafy vegetal growing sort of freshness. its juicy but its also kind of old school, and in a beer like this it really works. for what this beer shows of the loral, it seems like the hops would be nice as a dry hop in a new school style pilsener, or even in a berliner. thats where i would like to see loral hops appear next!
