Reviewed from long-standing notes. Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a Cigar City goblet.

A: Mild hazy deep gold, with a two-finger foamy, fluffy head that has great retention for a hoppy beer. Good amount of visible carbonation.

S: Grapefruit, citrus peel and resin hops over biscuity malts – comes off as more malt forward than most west coast IPAs. Not a huge aroma overall.

T: Grapefruit and orange rinds, floral and vegetal hops, and a bit of pine. Biscuit malts are substantial here as well – not any significant caramelly flavor, but the malty sweetness is more prevalent than expected. Finishes with more citrus rind and resin bitterness.

M: Body is average to a bit on the heavy side. Good carbonation sensation, and the alcohol content is noticeable but stops short of “hot”.

O: Uninspiring. Nothing particularly wrong prehaps, but it’s a blast from the past when it comes to flavors and hop/malt interplay. I’d drink a pint at a pizza joint without thinking about it. But to sit and enjoy…there’s not much here.

Had this in a taster at the newish St. Paul World of Beer & didn’t know it had been bottled; grabbed this 22 ouncer the first time we crossed paths. Not easy when it was moving so fast. Split with wife.

Pour is darker orange with none of that fancy haze, not even sure why I’m bothering. Nose is weak hop sauce, mildly sweet.

Mach 10 comes spitting old school hoppiness & brings me back to 2009. Big, snapping bitterness blasts the palate, backed with caramel malts that are a tad too prevalent for me. Mid-palate is mild earthiness, citrus, lemon, orange. Oily. Drinks like a brew half its ABV.

Lovely melding of hops & malts without letting the hops lose their teeth. Borderline excellent & a very good beer in the old tradition of B.R.

Comes in a deep orange with almost light amounts of red in it, the head didn't form a massive size, maybe 1/3" but it had impressive retention for its size. Aroma had a medley of sweet citrus, pine, grapefruit and mint.

A taste starts to bring in some mild tropical notes that were not detected in the nose. There seems to be a heavy malt backbone on this one giving way to viscous caramel notes. This one clocks in hella bitter. Big and the alcohol is there but not oppressive. Bomber format is meh.

Appearance: pours an orange color with a 1/2" head that falls to a thick surface covering.

Smell: orange citrus and some floral hop bitterness rises from the glass.

Taste: caramel, orange, lemon, mango, mild floral tones, and a nice bitterness level.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp throughout with some dryness arriving late.

Overall: very easy drinking DIPA. Refreshing and a few can be consumed in a sitting.

22oz brown bomber, sample from the brewery.

Love the froth on this beer, nearly clear amber hue. Orangey, pine, resiny, herbal hop nose with hints of tropical fruit and faint caramel. Ample bitterness from the hops. Melon, orange rind, lemon pith, and mint on the palate. Warming alcohol is a little estery with suggestions of ripe fruit. A real tasty IPA here.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright amber orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big three finger off white head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A juicy and fairly sweet hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus fruit and grass. Citrus hop scent of grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, apricot, lemon, and pineapple. Earthy hop hints of damp grass and slight pine. Pale malt with hints of caramel, grains, and cracker with yeast. Sweet hints of candied sugar. A pretty solid hoppy aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and sweet hop forward taste with notes of citrus fruit and grass. Tropical fruit notes of orange peel, grapefruit, apricot, tangerine, lemon, and pineapple. Earthy hop notes of grass and pine resin. Sweet malt notes of caramel, grains, and cracker along with some yeast. Some notes of candied sugar sweetness. A solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly sticky.

Overall: A pretty solid Double IPA. Sweeter than typical for a West Coast IPA but there still is plenty of juicy hop bitterness.

The bottle does a great sales pitch as the hyper-colored cosmic themed graphics and Japanese impact fonts tell you this beer is made with intensity, not subtlety. Certainly gives it a lot to live up to,

Look - Either my refrigerator is too cold, pouring is off or this beer has a tremdous flooding tidal wave of frothing, overflowing from the glass and running down like a breached levee. Color is terrific, head eventually retreats.

Smell - Uninspired, Hmmm... scant notes of apricot, peach surprisingly more noteworthy are the caramel malt notes. Expected more, the aroma isn't much stronger than what you'd expect from a session IPA or your standard American Pale.

Taste - Malt forward again. If you really try to get a soothing alcohol burn and a bitter hop finish. Not bad, surprisingly balanced for a beer that's >100 IBUs. Every breath I take after a sip brings some pine and alcohol taste to the back of my tongue/throat, almost like Gin and Sprite.

Feel - Harsh, my tongue turns to sandpaper well carbonated but sticky.

Overall enjoyable, heavy, flavorful. This won't be a blue ribbon but it's pretty solid.

O: Very good double IPA but not world class.

Amber (12) pour with billowy off white head; thick, long lasting cap; super heavy lacing; excellent clarity. Fresh hops, citrus and pine nose. Bitter orange rind with caramel malt flavors. Medium mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Long lasting bitter citrus linger.

This beer pours a transparent golden amber color with a massive off white head. Retention is excellent and there are many webs of lacing. Smell and taste are both the same, sweet malt bomb with a touch of citrus and pine. Not good. Feel is medium and slick. Overall not a good beer. I love Racer 5, but this is not anywhere near as good.

I can't resist grabbing a Bear Republic DIPA that I haven't seen before (seems to be the only guarantee of freshness :( ). Pours a clear medium orange with lots of fine sediment in suspension, two fingers of fluffy cream colored head settle to a thin cap and trail a haphazard sheet of delicate lace down the glass. Smell: floral, pine, a little grapefruit, a little biscuit. Taste: sugared grapefruit, orange, grainy spiciness, biscuit. Dunno, a bit of a throwback maybe? It's decent / tasty.
