On tap poured into a snifter at The Bistro, reviewed from notes. Beer pours a ruddy reddish brown with a thin tan bubbly head. Lots of sticky lacing as the beer is swirled, stays around for a bit. A few bubbles visible right at the edge of the glass, but lightly carbonated otherwise.

Nose is malt heavy as expected, plenty of caramel and toffee, fresh baked bread, with some young oak woody flavor.

Taste follows the nose pretty exactly, caramel, toffee, roasted grains, darker baked bread through the tongue. Finish is medium, with lingering malt sweetness, light oak tannins, and a bit of a sour tang.

Medium body with light carbonation. Pretty easy to drink, though a little more barrel influence would have been nice.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a 1 inch foamy khaki head that fades to an an oily film on the top of the beer. Random streaks and dots of lace slowly drip back down into the remaining beer on the drink down. The smells on this beer are somewhat subdued overall but I pick up some malt, dark fruit, and brown sugar aromas. Taste is better with malt, fruit brown sugar, and some wood flavors. There is a mild acidic bitterness that lingers on the palate after each sip. This beer has a higher level of carbonation with a crisp and bubbly mouthfeel. Overall this is a good barrel aged Scotch ale but I think the aromas and carbonation issue could have been done a bit better.

Oh tap at Churchill's bear republic night

A-carmel body with a white whispy head that sticks around for a second

S-cant really get anything off the nose. I'll blame it on the bar

T-better as it warms up. Mellow burbon that plays well with the malt backbone of the beer.

M-mediumbody and smooth

O-decent beer. Was hoping for better but this is good.

On tap at URGE. This is Bourbon barrel aged.

A: Dark brown with an attractive crimson tinge. The head is an inch of beige foam.

S: Pronounced apple and caramel notes with earth wafting from the glass. Bourbon is evident but tame, and I get light oak notes with a whisper of smoke.

T: The flavor is full of caramel and sugary golden apple. Bourbon is pretty tame and there's a decent amount of brown sugar with earthy hop notes. Bitterness is low.

M: Medium in body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: The rich malt is the focus of this beer and the bourbon, though faint, is a nice addition.

On-tap at Oakquinox

A: The beer pours a dark amber color with a finger or so of off-white head.

S: Rather sweet with a nice maltiness to it. Good toast, toffee, and caramel with a mild oakiness and bourbon aroma. Some dark fruit notes and brown sugar. A touch of dark malt in there, too.

T: A mild roasted malt flavor up front. Toast, bread, toffee, and caramel provide a nice sweetness. The oak flavor is a bit more pronounced than anticipated, and there is some sweet bourbon and vanilla in the background.

M: Medium to full in body with a moderate level of carbonation.

O: Not a ton of barrel influence, but a nice bit of oak and whiskey to it.

Sampled 11/13/2010 at -bal fest 2010.

Pours red/dark orange, hazy, off-white rocky head, decent retention and lacing.

Aroma is malt, whiskey, fresh oak, pretty mellow over all.

Flavor is subdued but scotch ale-ish with lots of oak flavor. Caramel with a bit of whiskey, nuttiness, and vanilla. Low/medium CO2.

Body is medium/heavy and pretty drinkable.
