Had this at the Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival on November 12, 2011. I ended up liking this one more than the OG version.

Has that amber/auburn appearance going for it, thin 1/6" head, off white. The aroma was similar, that malty slightly C hop piney nose, but with brett/oak boosting it up and drying it out.

The taste took on all kinds of opposing directions at times. Dark fruit, bitterness, earthy maltiness, wood, drying brett, chalky brett, chewy brett. Toffee and wine barrel feels. Despite it being a wild ale, it doesn't become a sour beer, merely one with some brett that yields distinctly more flavors and impressions than the base beer does. Its like it eliminates the base beer's oxidation, but adds to its complexity. I wouldn't really say it provides much in the way of funk like I've overheard described elsewhere. At the end of the day, I would say its an improvement over the base beer.

On tap at Pizza Port Strong Ale 2010

A: Hazed vibrant amber. Creamy beige head.

S: Moderate acetic presence, notes of cherries, grapes. Vinegar is definitely strong. Some lactic notes. Light toffee. Some wet leather. Vinous impression.

T: Toffee, lactic sourness, moderate acetic presence. A clash of  wet leather, bitterness, vinegar, toffee, and strange funk. Very odd. Warring flavors.

M: Medium body, moderate carb, sticky mouthfeel.

Overall: nice aroma, bad flavor. Probably just a random barrel that got infected.

On-tap at Strong Ale

A: The pour is a darkish amber color with a finger's worth of khaki colored foam.

S: The nose is sort of what I expected from a bretted barleywine. It's extremely dry with lots of oak, but a lot of piney hops as well. A mild grassy funk, and despite the dryness, there still is a bit of maltiness.

T: Although I knew it was coming, the combination of intense dryness along with fairly powerful bitter hoppiness was just a bit...strange. There is a mild malt character as well as some dark fruit notes.

M: The body is medium with a fairly high level of carbonation for a barleywine and a dry, bitter finish.

D: Certainly an interesting beer. It was nice to try, but I'm not entirely sure how much of this I would want to drink in a sitting.
