A contract ale made specifically to be served on cask at the Old Black Lion in Hay-on-Wye. They had two brews on cask, one called darker and maltier, the other lighter and more bitter. This was the lighter of the two. I was told quite forcefully by two gentlemen at the bar that this was a Welsh ale, not an English ale. Ethnic discussions aside, I figured I'd still list this as an English ale.
It poured a light amber with a creamy off white head. Had excellent lacing and retention. There was a light English noble hop nose.
This was a creamy, smooth session brew, worth having several, that was complex, but easy. Went great with roasted duck and an after dinner cheese plate.
