This cask pint was poured into a UK sleeve during the excellent 31st Telford Beer Festival where 34 hand pulls at ‘The Crown Inn’, Oakengates are used.
Wye Valley started producing a monthly Dorothy Goodbody’s ale a few months ago; this one uses husk-free barley known as ‘Penthouse’.
Golden looks, lager like in fact. The beer was odourless (very lager like again), it did however have a better looking white crown compared to a lager/pilsner and was obviously an ale when you took a sip.
Fairly sweet, those penthouse barley malts must produce some good sugars, whatever hops are used couldn’t cope, so although the beer wasn’t sickly sweet, it didn’t have the hop bitter finish I would normally expect from a UK golden ale. The body feel was light, with the alcohol sitting nicely within the blend; I really enjoyed this, my second beer at the festival.
