Brauerei Eichhorn "Helles"
on tap at the brewery-restaurant

Notes: The only beer remaining on tap due to the demand of a local fall festival. Crystal clear deep-gold/amber colored body beneath a very full head of rocky off-white foam. Very good head retention and good lacing. The aroma is grainy and spicy. The flavor is grainy with a hint of apple and floral, herbal, spicy, and lightly grassy hops. A stiff bitterness holds everything in place and it finishes dry and spicy with lingering grassy and herbal hops. Medium bodied and crisp.

At home in a half litre glass.
Very clear, light golden, white foam
Aroma of noble hops and pilsener malt
Typical Helles pilsener malt flavor with a little harsh bitterness, lightly minerally
Typical Helles body but carbonation is a bit too aggressive
Good Helles but a bit too harsh (bitterness, carbonation, mineral) for my taste. Brewed very well.

I had a 0.5l glass of this at the brewpub during lunch on 22SEP11. Cost was €2.00.

Served in a stange, it was a clear, medium-golden offering. A thin, bright white head sat up top, with good stick in the glass. Aroma had some bread, and was a bit herbal as well. A good mouthfeel with a medium body was present here.

Taste started a bit crackery, with a smidge of sweetness. A herbal, grassy, even spicy character came into play towards the dry finish, leaving a bitter taste behind. Decent, but not top-shelf. Zum Wohl!!

Sampled on-tap at the brewery pub in Forchheim.

This helles lager poured a clear, gold color with white foam that settled but clung to the glass in a few spots. The smell was spicy hops and mild maltiness. The taste was nicely malty with a good hoppiness to balance. There was a light bready flavor in the finish and hoppiness in the finish as well. The mouthfeel was smooth and crisp and relatively clean. The body was medium with good carbonation. This was a pretty decent helles lager.
