After a Helles and lunch, I went for the Vollbier Dunkel at the Neder pub on 22SEP11. This 0.5l serving cost me €2.20.
The glass was filled with a clear, medium chestnut bier. Slow carbo wandered topside, towards a huge, frothy, off-white billowy mass of foam. The head lasted well, and laced things nicely. Some caramel and toffee aromas filled the air, though they were a bit laid-back. Another solid mouthfeel on this medium-bodied bier.
Some toasty malt was present, with lovely caramel and toffee notes caressing the palate. Floral hopping is evident here, though the caramel lingers well. Quite tasty, indeed!

Sampled on-tap at the brewery pub in Forchheim.
This dunkel lager poured a clear, reddish amber color with light tan foam that settled but clung to the glass in places. The smell was very hoppy (spicy hops) with light caramel malt beneath. The taste was upfront spicy hops with a good maltiness (caramel malt with a little sweetness). A very good flavor. The mouthfeel was smooth and crisp with medium body and good carbonation. This was a very nice, enjoyable beer.
