It pours a dark chocolate color with ruby hue. The two finger beige head lasts a good long time. Lots a sticky and trailing lace.
A big smoky roasted malt aroma jumps out of the gate. Smells of chocolate, coffee and floral hops remain in the background throughout.
Full roasted malt, brown bread, coffee and dark chocolate make for a good Porter-style maltiness. The medium-high hop content offers up a piney and citrus bitterness. There are lots of flavors to notice. It's like a Baltic Porter without the big alcohol punch.

If you enjoy a poreter with an extra bitter kick, this one is for you. Good color, relatively medium body and a strong northeast hop profile like many Tremont brews.

Presentation: 12oz brown with a best if consumed by date clearly marked. Bottled Conditioned Ale stated on the front of the bottle.
Appearance: Quite dark ... black with ruby hues on the edges, as usual with Tremont ales ... a very well retaining head. The yeast sediment stays very well compacted to the bottom of the bottle ... still pour with care unless you want more of a yeast character.
Smell: Coffee in the nose with creamy caramel, butterscotch, brown bread and a light powdery yeast smell in the aroma.
Taste: Very smooth with a slightly creamy medium body, rich in flavour with an awesome texture to the mouth feel. Nice hop flavour, pinch of citrus and spice to mix things up. A little nutty with balanced roasted flavours, touch of caramel sweetness, handful of graininess and an underlying yeast taste all around. Hints of chicory, earth and mild coffee linger with a good dose of residual sweetness that has a mild fruitiness.
Notes: Drink and learn ... a very well bottle conditioned brew. Rich in flavour and in the raw ... some may say that there is a bit too much yeast flavour though it does add depth to the brew. Complex and very palatable ... a porter to quaff.
