pours dark caramel but weak collar and carbination here. Weak nose of subtle earthy hops. Tastes clean with caramel tones. An ok beer but not one i would rush back too

600ml bottle, part of Beau's current (hey, it's snowing here) winter mixed-pack. Hope this style has better staying power than its DIPA sibling.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium bronzed amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and mostly just bubbly tan head, which leaves a few instances of coral reef cay lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of semi-sweet, bready and doughy caramel malt, a hint of fireplace smoke, some muddled dark orchard fruitiness, subtle yeasty notes, diluted brown sugar syrup, and very, very tame earthy, musty, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is bready and biscuity caramel malt, demarara sugar, a faint free-range ashiness, still hard to differentiate black stone fruit, and more well understated musty, leafy, and gently soused-up floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-satisfying frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a suggestion of damp char maybe exacting a minor tithe here. It finishes off-dry, the biscuity malt, waning smoke, and indistinct bitterness landing as such.

Overall - this is an enjoyable enough version of the style, even if I think their choice in naming it is a tad presumptuous. It's heavy, ok, and warming (but not by that much), but maybe using the most extreme scientific element should be reserved for something even bigger, something without 'wee' in the name, even if it is used ironically here. At any rate, good, and Irish-adjacent enough (I made that mistake last night) for today's celebratory nature.

Veiled copper color with no visible activity. Slightly foamy light brown 1 finger head, lasting around 2 minutes, with faint legs and swirl reaction. Flavors of chocolate, barley, dark berries, toffee, and herbal hops. Slick and oily medium body with a light crisp. Medium strength finish, a bit roasted while more grainy and fruity. Not much complexity, lacking a proper barrel aged feel. Not a powerful wee heavy, quite accessible. Freshness is okay. Overall above average quality craft.

Part of the Beau's Winter Pack. Bottle came to a cost of about $6 CDN. Batch 6694 and bottled October 27, 2017.

Appearance - Dark amber colored, good clarity, minimal head is poured and a lack of retention. Plenty of bubbles within.

Smell - Grain, caramel sweetness, hints of smoke and booze.

Taste - Close to the nose, but plenty of grain. Smoke is subtle but present. Some woodsiness combined with lots of caramel sweetness.

Mouthfeel -Smooth, medium bodied, carbonation is soft and feel is about right for the style.

Overall - Another solid and enjoyable brew from the Winter Pack. Worth a shot but unlikely to go pick this up on my own in the future (if it were even available).
