Am I a kolsch or a marzen? A little bit of both I say... What's that? Mr. Hyde rapping at my door methinks.... The delicately malty, slightly fruity character of Lug•Tread dances lockstep with the more intensely bready, biscuity backbone of Night•Märzen, while taming some of its hop intensity. This blend is a perennial favorite around the brewery.

A: Bronze, huge white head, great retention, excellent lace.
S: Initially hit of sulfur subsides to plenty of steelie-metallic, grassy & floral hop aromas. Underlying hints of grainy biscuit. VERY Germanic.
T: Floral, steelie and grassy hops, great breadyness from the malt, with a light toffee sweetness. It's got the malt of a helles, with the hopping of a Pilsner. I like it.
M: Well-attenuated moderate body has an off-dry finish with a light (Kolsch-like) acidity.
D/O: This is a blend, and although I like both brews individually, I actually think the sum is greater than it's parts! Nicely done, and very drinkable.

Appearance: It has a nice semi cloudy golden color to it. It has a nice thick white bubbly head that dies down slowly and leaves nice lacing.
Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of biscuity and bready malts, grassy hops and a sweet honey note.
Taste: Like the aromas, it has a nice malt character to it, biscuits and bread, nice cirtusy and grassy notes coming from the hops, nice bitterness and a sweet honey note.
Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a very nice overall balance and feel.
Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas. Definetly one of my favorites from Beau's! Not crazy flavours and aromas but it has a great balance and drinkability. This would probably be a fallback beer if it was available year round.

600ml brown bottle with no freshness date.
LOOK: Dull amber color, big froth
SMELL: Floral hop, dried grass, bread crust, biscuits, yeast, clean
TASTE: Smooth, moderate body, biscuity, crisp, grassy, fresh bread, modest hopping, clean, semi-dry finish
Somewhat of a Kolsch-Marzen hybrid or that is at least what the brewers intention was. I can see both within though it seems closer to the Marzen. Regarless, super tasty and very easy to drink ... worth the hunt if you are into German style brews.

600mL bottle courtesy of Jerry from Beau's - cheers man!
This brew is twinned with Mr. Hyde as part of Beau's "Wild Oats" series (No. 14), and is available at the brewery in a two-pack. This brew is a blend of Lug Tread koelsch and Nightmarzen.
Poured into a nonic Beau's glass. Rich honey golden in colour, slight haze, a good frothy head that survives as a thin ring with some lacing flecks here and there. Looks like a deeper version of Beau's.
The nose is very pleasant - sweet white bread, honey (big honey, actually), cracker, mild lemon, Hallertau style hops from the Lugtread.
Less sweet than the nose led on (how appropriate for Dr. Jekyll...), this brew boasts a nice breadiness, citrus, honey and finishes with a strong hop presence. Lugtread with a bit more heft - quite enjoyable. Moderate body (more so than Lugtread), a bit oily, mild late-arriving carbonation.
An enjoyable blending of two popular Beau's offerings, Dr. Jekyll is certainly a brew I could see myself enjoying on many an occasion. Mild-mannered, but with a bit of character and flair for experimentation - this brew fits the Dr. Jekyll name well.
