Had on tap at the Stinking Rose, Campbelford. Poured a soapy tan head, decent retention, good lacing and film. Colour is a dark, slight ruby, brown.
Smell has a strong roast character, bit of coffee, bitter dark chocolate, earthy and woody hop character, some dark fruitiness, surprisingly lively, good, interesting and balanced.
Taste has a strong malt presence, roastiness, hops come through, quite dry and foresty. Aftertaste is bitter, almost burnt, a bit of a coffee note. Bitterness is pretty balanced and flavour is quite solid, could be more complex but its blended well and is tasty, some malty sweetness.
Mouthfeel has a moderate body, low carbonation, initially a bit watery but then lots of coating maltiness. Quite satisfying and full on finish, nice and sessionable.
Overall a really nice beer, certainly tasty and fairly true to style. Worked well but could improve in areas.
