The Spruce Moose is an American Pale Ale featuring an addition of more than 60 kilograms of hand-harvested spruce tips. This deep copper-coloured ale features a clean, light malt character complemented by zesty, piney hops.

The Spruce Moose was brewed with Patrick Boisvenue, winner of the 2012 Members of Barleyment Beau’s Oktoberfest Homebrew Competition. No stranger to the Beau’s brewhouse, Patrick also collaborated with Beau’s to create the award-winning Burnt Rock Vanilla Porter.

600ml brown bottle with no freshness date.

Look: Hazed amber, tiny bubbled sticky lacing

Smell: Earthy, grainy, yeast, spruce, mild hopping, mild orange rind, piney, ripe pears, more spruce

Taste: Luscious mouthfeel, very smooth, semi-creamy medium body. Even spruce character throughout, very balanced, ample hop bitterness, orange pith, pine bark, earthy, nutty yeast, mildly biscuity maltiness, drying finish

Love the rustic tone the spruce adds to this solid American Pale Ale, while the spruce really shines it also lets the beer be a beer. Well done!

I would like more spruce, more beer than spruce which imparts some bitter flavour secondary to a lightly cheesy ale. That would optimize the aroma which I get almost nothing from.Creamy mix. On tap at Bar Hop. Worth a try. Transition beer to try coniferous traditional beers.
