I have to do this beer justice, before it is officially retired.
Upper Canada added this to their lineup in 1996. Unfortuantely at the time, Upper Canada had some quality control issues... though I never had a problem with this brew.
Sleemans took over in 1998, closed the Toronto plant, and unfortunately axed this product.
This was the only Canadian Pale Ale listed under the 1998 World Beer Championships, scoring an 85.

This was probably Canada's BEST pale ale at the time. The flavour of the hops and caramel malts really stood out. It brought this Southern Ontario drinker to the dark side (craft brew), openning the gateway to the wonderful world of American Pale Ales.
In "The Great Lakes Beer Guide", Jamie MacKinnon gives this 3 out of 5 stars and writes:
5.2% alc./vol., O.G.: 1049
Ingredients: two-row pale, carastan and black malts; Cluster and Cascade hops
Appearance: mid amber; beige, fairly quiet and stable head; good lacing.
Aroma: toffee, peat, earth, gueuze-lactose-leather, hint of flowers.
Taste: toffee, butter-scotch, some early hop taste and bitterness. To finish, a grassy-earthy hop bitterness (29 IBU's), some plummy tartness, with residual toffee-flavoured viscosity.

This one is taken from notes I had written 6 years ago (on my birthday). This amber colored Pale Ale with a fine white head is medium bodied. The malty and hop aroma fades fast. Slightly sweet malt. A fine blend of hops predominantly, Cascade provide and lightly spicy and citrus bitterness. Sharp edged and flavorful. This is a good Ale! Thanks to my sister, Ellen for bringing me this from her trip to Canada!

There's nothing particularly distinctive about this beer. It has a bitter twang that probably discounts it as a session brew.

Presentation: 12 oz. bottle with a small story of rebillions in Canada leading to the creation of this brew.
Appearance: Copper with a sticky white head.
Smell: Hints of malt and hop aromas.
Taste: Thin and smooth, with an astringent hop flavour. Somewhat bland with mostly notes of watery flower tastes.
Notes: Another victim of triple cold filtering. A bitter ale with no malt flavour. (5.2% alc./vol.)
