This brew poured a very small head of small to medium sized light brown bubbles and a dark opaque black brown body. It has a strong malt aroma and a mild coffee flavor. There is a slight bitterness to its start but finishes very smoothly. The coffee flavor lingers well after the taste. It does leave only a fair lacing after a drink from the mug. I really liked this one over all and it was the best brew I had there that evening. Very nice job.

From a sampler at the Indy location: This beer is a dark brown color with a medium beige head. Solid lacing throughout. The aroma is both nutty and chocolatey. Medium body with malt, chocolate and a little coffee to the taste. The finish is decent and has a nice coffee flavor with a touch of hops. This is pretty good.

This one was served in a standard pint. As advertised, the beer is a dark brown. I has just a skim of a tan head.

The nose is of brown sugar, plums and peat.

The taste tracks very close to the smell. Sugared plums, a bit of smoke, a hint of tobacco and some whole grain bagel. Some bitterness emerges 1/4 way through.

The mouth seems a bit thin with maybe too much carbonation, but these are really minor flaws. They describe this brown as porter like, perhaps it should be porter light?

Still an enjoyable sipper that is easy to pair with non-spicy dishes.

This beer poured a small sized head with small-medium sized bubbles. It had a very pleasant and good coffee taste to it which I really enjoyed as it was not an overly strong coffee taste which instantly turns me off. In my opinion it had a bit of a cherry aroma to it.

Dark brown color, with some ruby highlights. Tan foamy head, decent retention. Very nice roasty aroma. Roasty flavors, followed by toffee, and chocolate. Fair amount of bitterness at the end, but does not take away from the malt flavor. Medium body, appropriate carbonation. Very drinkable. I thought this one one of the better ones available at the Indy location during our visit.

Maybe the best balanced beer that I had at my extended stay in Downtown Indianapolis.

The Brickway Brown begins with a standard brown hue, froathy head formation that retained for half the session adding light lacing on the glass. An inviting look.

Aromas are a little light in intesity, but deliver a sweet maltiness that hosts the character of caramel, toffee, nuttiness, and a hint of chocolate and woodsy. No real hop character in the nose.

Flavors are more pronounced than the nose suggests with emphasis on the toffee, toasty malts and chocolate. Lighter on the nutty woodsy taste, but with a savory malty taste throughout. Again, no real hop taste. But no graininess or buttery flavors either.

Creamy, light and refreshing on the palate. Light on alcohol, but dry, crisp and well attenuated, the marshmallowy texture seems to evaporate in the mouth.

Very flavorful and easy to dring. A very sessionable beer. Beauty is in the balance and true to style.

This is a nice juicy brown. And I mean juicy! There are a lot of fruity-notes from he yeast strain. The fruity-ness is pleasantly balanced out by a helping of earthy notes from the hops. All-in-all a light, very refreshing, very drinkable beer. One of my fav's at the Rock Bottom.

Poured a very nice deep brown color with some good head and decent lacing. Had a nice malty, earthy aroma, although not as deep and heavy as I like in my brown ales. Nice taste, a good maltiness with a slight biscuit flavor, without being overpowering (I just wish there was more of a nutty taste to it). One of the better beers I tried.
