Served on tap at the Ballston Mall location in Arlington VA. This beer had it's debut on Halloween of 2003.
Appearance: Inky black with a smallish brown colored head, just a ring of foam survived by the time it got to my table.
Smell: Dark coffee and roasted malt aromas. Nothing really complex or strong, just a nice solid earthiness.
Taste: Very robust bittersweet coffee taste. Precious little hops. Great roasted malt presence.
Mouthfeel: Not thick and chewy in the slightest, but thus sucker does have quite the presence. Alcohol is well-masked.
Drinkability: Not too bad, not too bad at all. I was surprised to see this beer on the roster. A mild imperial stout, not quite as balls to the wall as Stone's Imperial Stout or Storm King, but more like a stripped down version of Samuel Smith's. You could choose a worse model, ya know.
