on tap at the brewpub in San Diego. pours a rich amber color with a half finger of white head, poor retention and no lacings.

aroma is of light bittering hops and some caramelized malts with a bit of candied sugar mixed in. pleasant.

taste follows the nose with a finish of caramel malts and a bit of residual grain. the hops are less distinct on the palate, giving it more of an amber-like quality.

mouthfeel is medium bodied with a malty texture and great balance. finishes a bit dry with residual coating of caramel malts.

drinkability is good. standard as far as profile goes with am amber-like character. could use a bit more hop quality to be called an APA, but still tasty and drinkable.

I believe we got this with the sampler and "beer tasters appetizer".
This was a good experience to recruit one of my friends into the adventurous world of beer tasting.

A: Poured a nice golden clear liquid, with a 1/4" foamy white head.

S: The aggressive hop jumps out at you, but very pleasing notes.

T: One impressive pale ale with such a fruity yet bitter hop to the back of the palette. This in turn has a delicate light malt finish. Dry hopped with great flavor.

M: Bitter but very well balanced.

D: Fruity hop lovers must try this.

Elbows Up,
Adam

I enjoyed this beer. It had ample but not overwhelming hoppiness, which is my #1 criterion for a beer. Fresh. Drank this with the pub tip steak and it complemented the braised beef rather nicely.

Now I have to add a few more characters before I can file this review. Pray for beer.

Point Break Pale Ale

Rock Bottom Brewery in the heart of San Diego.

Appearance- golden/ light copper with a decent head.
Smell- floral and citrus.
Taste- light citrus and floral hops with a bit of biscuity/ breadiness.
Mouthfeel- a tad watery and a touch too light.

Overall- not a bad beer. goes good with my chicken ranch salad on a perfect San Diego afternoon.

Finally, a "good" beer at the SD rock bottom. This was a dark goldenish/yellow colour with an ample head of white foam. The aromas were of citric hops, and light/bready malts. The taste was a hoppy and smooth with a nice hoppy finish. The mouthfeel was a bit too thin, but the drinkability was excellent.
