Dark ruby that was almost dark brown. I could just barely see light all the way through the pint glass. The crown was light tan in color, small in size, and fell to a thin, persistent film. Some lace appeared in small scraps and sheets, but it was underwhelming in amount and character. The nose was almost completely absent.
The flavor was interesting. The beer tasted Belgian (Belgian yeast?), with a sort of funky, earthy, slightly sour taste in the background. Most prominent was a malty, Christmas-like spiciness (cinnamon and nutmeg). It tasted like 4 parts Christmas Ale and 1 part Orval.
CarnivAle is an interesting beer with an interesting name, but isn't so interesting that I'll order it again (assuming it makes a repeat appearance).

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
