This beer poured a deep opaque black with reddish hues when held to the light. A thick cap of creamy foam remained throughout the session, leaving heavy traces down the glass. The smell was rich and malty, with hints of coffee and chocolate. The initial taste was sweet and bold. Strong chocolate and mild caramel flavors in the middle that drew me in wanting more. A hint of raisin came through in the finish, which was smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. Malt sweetness and specialty/dark grains are well balanced with hop flavor and bitterness. There was a mild alcohol taste on the tongue at the end. Very highly drinkable, which makes it a dangerous brew. It was original crafted after their Hoosier Ma Stout, but evolved in to something much more delightful. A definite must try.
