First had: on tap at Rock Bottom, King of Prussia, PA

A decent light lager. Poured a clear golden color with a small white head that actually retains rather well. Bready aroma with pale malts and a bit of grassiness. Similar taste, lightly toasted biscuits, light herbs and grass, and just enough hop bitterness. Light body and good drinkability, but not really my style when all is said and done.

Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue VII:

Now a staple offering for the massive Rock Bottom chain, Munich Gold was actually first formulated by the Brew Moon chain of brewpubs in Mass. The beer was so good it won a Gold at the 1996 GABF, and the beer became a Rock Bottom standard when they purchased and converted Brew Moon. Medals schmedals! Let's find out for ourselves.

Pours a vibrant golden color with a very thick, creamy foam head that sticks to the glass and retains a respectable lacing. Aroma is soft, bready, with just a kiss of herbally hop. Body is soft too, medium and smooth with more bready malts up front and a slighty sweet profile that provides a good backboard for the soft hop bite, which is a bit salty and rindy and snaps with some citric lemon. Herbal beneath. Dry and biscuity in the finish, which cleans up very well, less a bready linger.

Listen up, beer geeks: Drink more lagers. Like this one--a solid example of its style. Head down to one of their many locations, grab a growler and some friends, and enjoy it on its own or with some food. Prost!

Poured into a pint glass fom the tap.

The color is gold small white foamy head.

The smell is a bit bread in flavor. A slight weat feel to it with a hint of malt.

The taste is bitter. Not very hoppy with a what or grainy taste to it.

This beer was a lightly carbinated and not too strong. Easy going down but not too flavorful. It did have a bit of a nice smoothness to it that was one of it's qualities.

Poured at the Rock Bottom Brewery prior to seeing the Blue Man Group.

Beautiful honey gold color...poured with no head. Nose was lite and week with some honey tones. Taste was much liter than expected, especially up front where there was little discernible flavor. This did build into a more satisfying wheat and hops, and finishes okay.

Overall, the felt much thinner than expected. Not a particularly rewarding drink.

Off the tap this beer was a deep gold color with hints of amber tint. The head was off-white and short lived but it did leave decent lacing off the collar that remained. The aroma was a blend of semi-sweet malt and 'green' hops. The flavors were all malt at first, with hints of toffee sweetness that then became more bitter towards the finish as the leafy hops came forward. Slightly acidic and crisp. The body was light/medium, the carbonation good for the weight and the mouthfeel ok. Refreshing and dry, a good spring offering.

Had on their sampler. The beer had a slight amber hint to a generally gold appearance. Rather thick lacing on the sides. Aromas were balanced malts and hops, nothing too overpowering or special. A basically bitter-sweet taste where the bitterness more is a short aftertaste. Allows it to be a much sweeter drink. Very crisp in general wrapped in a light body makes this pretty refreshing. Overall, a good lager.

A: Gold color with a small white head. There was a light coating on the glass after being swirled. Color was consistent throughout the glass.

S: Strong bread and grain scent. Hint of a sweet yeast smell that followed to balance it off. Had to swirl to get the yeast to come out in the sniff.

T: True to the smell was a bitter grainy and yeast taste to it. A little hops on the end of the taste to give it a bitter after taste.

M: Very little carbonation for the mouth to contend with. It was smooth with a medium body to it.

D: Leaves a bitter after taste. The flavors mixed well together to make it a pleasant experience.

Served on-tap in a clear imperial pint glass

A: Nice clear golden color with lively carbonation but disappointing head that is short-lived

S: Sweet malt-dominance with small contribution of leafy hops

T: Inobtrusive but not unique with strong, sweet pale malt presence with crisp hops finish

M: Clean and dry with ample carbonation and light body

D: Great session offering and pretty refreshing but not distinctive in any fashion

smell - Has a sweet malt smell and hop ting.

taste - Decent taste, spicy, some hops are present here.

mouthfeel - light-medium body

drinkability - Not a bad beer, would of liked to try more, but I spent a ton of money that week. (honeymoon)

A- Clear golden colour with noticeable carbonation, and decent head.

S- Aroma is a musty bready malt, with some yeast.

T- Bready malt, with little to no hop character. A bit sweet in the aftertaste.

M- Very clean, but also somewhat watery.

D- Very drinkable, but there's not a lot there to keep me as a beer drinker interested. Just a clean basic lager, so if your into that, then godspeed with this one.

This pours a golden yellow with a nice head that leaves good lacing. The smell is malty with floral aromas. The first sip is hoppy then the malt mellows the taste making this a decent summer brew. The m/f is light with the flavors mixing just Ok. The taste was abit thin. All in all, a decent summer beer, but nothing special.

Appearance: Medium golden with a small, white, tight head that diminished to a very light film, and left some spotty lacing.

Smell: Mild. Caramel, grain, light dough and a hint of herbs.

Taste: Starts off with a moderate caramel sweetness, turning toward a light dry citrus bitterness on the finish while maintaining a strong malt backbone all the way through. The finish is rather long in duration, especially for the style.

Mouthfeel: Thin body, dry texture, lively carbonation.

Drinkability: Not anything all that memorable, but a good, well-rounded, easy-drinking, highly-sessionable brew.

Pours pale gold in color. Perfectly opaque. No head. Nose came through as slightly sweet malts. Flavor was very straight forward and simple. Base malts that were sweet and not much else. Crisp and slightly dry finish. Great session beer that would be good on a hotter day.

Not a bad interpretation of the style. I tried it in the sampler at the Braintree, MA location today. Very grainy, with malts that kind of mask the few hops in there. Somewhat crisp, dry mouthfeel and the hops finally come around in the aftertaste. This isn't one of my favorite styles of beer so I can't say that I loved it, but it's a pretty good brew that's easy to drink and served as fresh as fresh can be.
