A pleasant surprise lurking about in the cellar of Rock Bottom Cincinnati. Seeming a little strange to see this type of experimenting going on, so I had to seize the opportunity and try one. The head brewer said that when he took the gig, that these barrels were already aging beers, waiting to be served. Though a typical heavy malt brew with plumbs, figs, molassas, and nutty flavors, the bourbon barrels contributes oak woodiness, caramel and vanillas, and a serious up-charge in alcohol. The beer takes on a lot of strict bourbon flavors and makes the beer quite hot. Finishes with a grape-like, berry-like flavor and a linering alcohol intensity. Good beer, but after one, I'm done.
