(Served in a snifter)
A- This beer pours a black body with a light tan head that is creamy then fades to a thick ring that sticks to the glass. The body is too dense to see any carbonation in there.
S- This beer has a bold oak smell with notes of wet wood and bourbon hints. As it warms note of dry black strap molasses and a faint green hop note come through. The last few sips smelled of band-aids but I was more of a blend of good aromas and not an infection smell.
T- The taste of dark roasted malts is well blended with a big oak and big bourbon note. There are hints of earthy roasted chocolate nibs in the background followed by hints of raisins and peat smoke. The finish is a nice soft grassy hop finish. As it warms the taste of vanilla offers a nice finish.
M- The mouthfeel is light with a clean finish thanks to a little fizz. The mouthfeel is not as heavy as the dark appearance and complex taste would have me believe.
D- This beer is a mix of 70% Double IPA and 30 % Imperial Stout that is then aged in bourbon barrels for a period of time. The flavors are mostly big barrel flavors followed by nice imperial stout flavors with a hint DIPA flavor buried in the background. I think the DIPA does lighten up the beer and makes it very drinkable.
