this was the version that the old brewer tim aged in the woodford reserve barrels, and i was very surprised that i detected very little of the oak/bourbon in the nose. it was present somewhat in the finish, however. poured a ruby red from the cask into a snifter, minimal head. aroma was quite complex with toffee, molasses, caramel, piney hops, port wine, and dark, dark stone fruits. more that i cannot discern/recall. mouthfeel was quite viscous and heavy, this beer became much sweeter from the barrel aging than the original. also the hop character was much less pronounced. the bourbon character and warming alcohol are evident at the back end. definitely not a session beer but very interesting and a real treat to sip and analyze.
