This beer is apparently brewed year around, but as a different wheat beer every season. The winter version is a dunkelweizen.
Poured from a 64 oz. growler via sman262.
A: Deep dark brown/black with some lighter hues around the bottom of the glass. Smallish creamy white head with OK retention and OK lacing.
S: Nice sweet banana aroma with some hints of bubblegum. Slight chocolate character lends a chocolate banana quality that is very nice. Some roasted malt, not a whole lot of wheat, but the banana is so nicely done, superb nose.
T: Pretty sweet up front, again with some hints of bubblegum and a less intense banana. Finish is of roasted malt, some wheat character and a slight nuttiness. Hints of alcohol and even a slight smokiness in front lends to a very solid taste.
M/D: Carbonation is bit high, but nothing too bad, body is medium-full and drinkability is very nice on this one, the taste and smell just go so well together. My first experience with the style and I am very happy with it. This is the beer that will turn me on to Dunkelweinzens.
