They were offering two versions, a "regular" and a barrel aged version. I opted for the regular version and was not disappointed. Served in mug club mug, the beer is black with brown highlights. It has a beige head with stick lacing.

The aroma is of roasted malts, brown sugar, coffee and a bit of chocolate.

The taste is nicely balanced between roasted, almost charred malts and brown sugar based sweetness. More coffee and molasses notes as the beer warms. The rye added a nice bit of backend spice that played off the sweetness.

The mouth is pleasantly sturdy, but a tad over carbonated. This was an easy drinker, I started my evening with one and then after a couple of pale ales had one for a nightcap. Next time I will try the barrel aged version!
