On-tap at Rock Bottom Long Beach

A: The pour is not a very pretty one. Intensely turbid and cloudy yellow/orange color with a soapy white head.

S: Smells more like a hefeweizen than anything. Incredibly intense clove aroma with a decent amount of banana and wheat. Nice and bready and sweet with a touch of citrus hops.

T: Tastes very much like a hefeweizen, too. Lots of nice clove flavor, sweet banana, bread, and wheat. There is a nice orange flavor to it and some citrus hops. Mild bitterness to it as well.

M: Medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation.

O: This was really a nice beer. I was expecting your usual crappy, sour wheat beer, but this was not the case at all.

Whatever. Pours clear yellow with a medium white head. Metallic, grainy nose. Tastes metallic and grainy, with sour wheat. Rice-sweet aftertaste. Looks and smells like a Bud Light, except a Bud Light would be cheaper. I expect more when I go to a microbrewery/restaurant

I had this pint at Rock Bottom in Campbell, CA (near San Jose). This batched was labeled on the chalkboard as brewed on 1/5/05 and 5.4% ABV.

Appearance: It has a cloudy orange/yellow/pinkish color sort of like a grapefruit color and a pretty much no head. Thankfully I remembered to ask the server not to put a lemon on the edge when I ordered this pint.

Smell: Malty, soapy, sweet smell with a touch of floral aroma.

Taste: From the start all I can say is that this beer is weird. Not weird in a bad way, just weird in a unique way. It tastes soapy, spicy sweet with notes of cinnamon, and potpourri. Yeah, it tastes like potpourri and stongly of lavender and lillac. Other notes include grapefruit, gum arabic, and lots of aromatic flowers. I can't say that the floralness can be attributed to the hops because it is unlike any other floral character I've ever tasted. Think liquid malty potpourri. Yeah, weird. There is some wheaty maltiness to it that makes me believe it is actually a wheat beer, but otherwise, it is unlike anything I've ever had.

Mouthfeel: Clean on the palate and a bit sticky at the end.

Drinkability: This all depends on how one defines drinkability. Would I order another pint? Probably not. Was I imressped with the beer? Most certainly. It was just too funky to love, but I give them a lot of credit for creativity. I'm sure this beer could be refined and controlled better, but I certainly appreciate the unique drinking experience last night.

Pours a cloudy white/orange color with a nice head. Description states it is brewed with ginger and orange juice. The aroma has some nice spice notes. Taste is clean wheat flavors with just a hint of citrus at the finish. Very smooth and drinkable. Fruit flavor is not overwhelming at all - only complimentary.

Unfiltered, cloudy in appearance and very clean drinking. A really crisp light white beer, well balanced with quite a hoppy bitter finish. A slice of lemon will round off the hoppy finish. I would call this more of an American Wheat Beer than Belgium in style. This is NOT meant to be derogatory. What I mean is that it is lighter and very drinkable. Better suited to the Californian environ than other 'heavier' wheat beers, or Hefe-Weizens. A good session beer for sitting outside in the baking sun of the Rock Bottom in Long Beach. Get a Pitcher !!!
