Made by Rock Bottom Warrenville for FoBAB where it was a gold medalist.
A - Mahogany beer with some red on the edges. Head barely rose up half a finger and faded briefly to a small ring before going to nothing. No stick on the sides.
S - Pretty bourbon forward, with mild hops on the end. Malt backbone is mostly toasted and burnt caramel, lots of alcohol coming through on this one.
T - Bourbon tends to dominate most of what's going on here with caramel, wood, slight vanilla, and a bit of booze. There is a little hop presense on the end that is actually kind of refreshing, but the alcohol cuts through this quite a bit. Could use some time to cool and smooth out.
M - Medium bodied with lower carbonation.
O - I don't remember what this won the medal for, but whatever it was BA Hi-Fi Rye should have placed ahead of it. This wasn't bad, and if you like your barleywines with a bit of alcohol heat, that maybe this is for you.
