Rock Bottom Brewery : Double Down DIPA
LOOK: From the tap, Rock Bottom Double Down pours a light golden with a chill haze. Served in a snifter indicating its strength, this looks like what you might imagine an unfiltered double IPA would look like.
AROMA: Smells of pine resin, herb and honey. Strongly hoppy, sappy scent.
TASTE: A showcase for hops upfront with a solid bitterness. Quite citrusy hop profile with a hint of pineapple. More of the pine sap apparent in the nose. Sticky, resinous hops. Malt sweetness is ample with honey bread character.
MOUTHFEEL: Full bodied, well carbonated , sticky slightly syrupy feel.
OVERALL: A quality double IPA from the brewpub chain. This tastes like a West Coast IPA clone, and it was well executed here. Delicious, strong, drinkable hop forward ale.

On tap @ the King of Prussia location. Hazed gold with a bright-white head. Rich creamy edges and sticky lacing down the sides. Smells floral with herbs and pine. Sweet tropical notes and more bitter grapefruit in spots. Malts character along the back. The taste is fresh bitter grapefruit with a resinous finish. Herbal and tropical flavors temper things on the edges while a grainy sweet backbone offers up decent balance. Mouthfeel is mediuim with a sharp creaminess that blows up in the mouth. Little warmth from the ABV but overall not bad. This one seemed like it was falling off a bit as remnants of a fresh brightness from the hops still lingered. It's well balanced though and definitley still a drinkable hoppy beer.
