Poured from 22oz bomber into a dimpled mug. I picked the bomber up at the brewery.
Appearance: dark brown, nearly black, with enough haze to be impenetrable to the light. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam.
Smell: caramelly and roasty with a bit of sweetness and just a little sharpness. Not too bad.
Taste: roasty, a little bit caramelly, and rather bitter. There's a chocolate element, but it's more bitter than sweet. It's also got a fair bit of acidity and sharpness. Not terrible, but perhaps not my favorite.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: this beer seems a bit unrefined to me; I think the bitterness and sharpness could be taken down a notch.

Bomber from brewery. Dark, dark brown pour with a foamy beige head that gradually recedes to a thin ring. Aroma is roast malts, nutty, charred wood. Taste is light roast, chestnuts, touch of sweetness and a thin but persistent bitterness at the finish.

Nice smooth taste, with a pleasant and not heavy after. Not as much bight as the stout, but equally enjoyable.

I was told this is 7.0% ABV. On tap at brewery
Deep brown with a few rays of light making molasses shades. Smells of oats, herbal hops, some coffee, some body odor and a little bit of oiled leather. Taste is bitter, coffee, some leather, some tobacco (oily maduro), some astringency. Full bodied with low carb and a dry finish. Meh.

Laht Neppur uses a variety of yeast strains including dry saccharomyces wine yeasts. Though I dont know if wine yeasts are used in this porter, Ive noted patterns of yeast derived irregularities in the house beers of which this porter is one example. The body is very thin and suffers from a chalky mouthfeel. A light measure of cocoa smell steps forth, but the dominant aroma and taste is of medicinal plastic.
This oatmeal porter has visual appeal. It is pure black with a tan film of head and clinging lace. As it warms, a nice wash of chocolate emerges in the home stretch but not enough to save it.
