This is Laht Neppurs strongest ale until November when they roll out their Scotch ale and barleywine. It is an oak colored beer whose 7.7% ABV puts it on the low end of the imperial scale.
The beer is brutally, savagely hopped. The bittering is so strong, instead of IBUs, you might wish to measure it in BTUs. It is scorching. And yet all those hops contribute nothing to the aroma, which is dry and grainy with a trace of mint. Also, the head retention properties of lupulus are not manifest, for the head and lace are forgotten. What does emerge is a citrus taste that is more orange than lemon and a grainy earthiness that somehow seems appropriate in this region of dryland wheat farming. A drinkable beer to be certain, but not easily recognized as an imperial IPA and I wouldnt call it smooth.
