Bomber. After a normal looking pour, it appears something went wrong here, way too sweet, and lactic. Not a good experience. Hopefully not a reflection on the brewery ad a whole.

Sharp for scotch ale it's great cold but a little chewy warm.

 

Looks fine, modest head retention, smells like sweet malty plums. Taste is sweet malty brown sugar or molasses, plums, maybe a note of figs. Hard to find the hop notes but they must be there for attempted balance. Definatly on the sweet side with too little body for my tastes and the abv kind hits pretty strong. Overall pretty good for a strong ale but again the body needs a bit more substance and the hops could use a bump or two.

 

 

Poured from a bottle into a MacAndrew's thistle glass. Pours a dark, quite hazy mahogany amber with a half finger khaki head with good retention and lacing. Nice Scotch ale aroma of caramel malt, brown sugar, hints of smoke and nuts. Flavor is caramel malt, nuts, mild dark dried fruit, brown bread; finishing with a light hops bitterness and a bit of tartness that’s a little jarring. Medium bodied. Looks and smell nice; the start is as expected but this ale falls apart in the finish, where the slight tartness arrives instead of a smoky malt finish. Close, but somewhat unbalanced. The finish is not a deal killer, because the other flavors are pleasant and on style. A near miss.

Pours cola brown with caramel hues, some fine creamy foam atop. Smells like dough, some baked pizza smells, some nougat but really no appealing. Flavor is boozy and phenolic - really hard for me to get bast the alcohol, banana, and nailpolish. Medium bodied with light carb and an off dry finish.

My third & final beer at Brouwers for the evening after an excellent lamb burger, good fries, & tasty sauce to dip them both in. I'll be consuming the balance of that burger tomorrow at the airport. See my & envy me, puny fliers!

Very dark for a scotch ale, on the heavily serious side of blanket brown, with a haze of red. Smell is pretty light, sweet malting.

Laht Neppur Scottish Ale doesn't really belong in its weight class. The taste reaches for mediocre & falls a bit short. The malts are dull...and there's not much else.

That word fits it perfectly. A dull brew. Unfortunately, this isn't something I'd order again. In a state/city swimming with microbrews, this one needs to up its game several notches to compete with more worthy offerings. I hope it succeeds!

Pours dark copper/lite brown.. pretty highlites.. short lasting tan head.

Aromas are pretty much spot on albeit a tad light.. malty for sure with some lite caramel... just doesn't seem deep enough to be a homerun.

Flavors are the same.. plenty of malts.. hints of some nuttiness. deeeep toast... still could use a bit more up front heavy malts.. and a touch more sweetness.

Body is on the light side of the style..

There aren't really any "flaws", except it seems a little shallow and could use some dialing in toward the malt side of things.

I dig it ... just a tad light for my liking.

This Scotch-style ale is incorrectly labeled a Scottish though it is a full 8% ABV. It is one of only a few strong ales Laht Neppur brews and the only one I've seen bottled. It is cola colored with infinitesimally small bubbles and an absent head.

I had a moment of concern about the aroma, which was swampy and suggestive of a troublesome infection. But there's no trouble to the sweet, plummy taste with its near absent bittering so I'm wondering if a slight measure of peat malts contributes that swampy herbalness. Bottom line is that I'd be quite pleased to drink another.
