My previous reviews of this brewery could be better; I need to go back and re-review those beers if I can. Today, I'm taking a closer look at an IPA. It's a cool 66 degrees on a cloudy Idaho morning. I serve this beer at a refreshing 44 degrees using a Belcher glass. A fast pour created a mammoth three-fingered head with excellent head retention. The slow dissipation tatted a beautiful lacing pattern on the glass. I am charting the color at SRM 4, a pale straw with a light golden hue. The clarity is mostly clear with a few yeast floaties. The appearance of this beer is above average for this style, a testament to the meticulousness of this review process, ensuring you get the most accurate and detailed assessment of this beer.
As I delve into the aromas, I'm met with a surprise. Instead of the expected hop aromas, the first notes are of malty sweetness, toasted bread crumbs, and lightly toasted cereal grains. The hop aromas, when they do appear, are faint orange and light floral blossoms, creating a unique olfactory experience. Despite my efforts to coax out more aromas, the maltiness remains dominant.
As I take my first sip, the unique character of this IPA becomes even more apparent. The hops, while present, are not as crisp as expected, reminiscent of overused dishwater. The flavors I can discern are resin, floral blossoms, dank, herbal, and light orange. The malt profile, on the other hand, is more pronounced, with notes of bready, biscuit, and toasted cereal.
The mouthfeel is astringent with a film, finishing dry. The Body is medium and medium carbonation.
This beer has many things that I do not like. The hop profile reminds me of what you would put in a blender: add a splash of NEIPA classic hops and WCIPA hops, blend it up, and hope for the best. There needs to be a clear delineation of what the hops should do because the aromas are mute, and the flavors need to be more apparent. I am disappointed with this IPA.
