I can’t recall the last time I bought a Flat Earth beer because, frankly, they aren’t very good, though Cygnus X-1 always had a little niche in my heart. 750ML bottle split with my wife.
The beer is darkest brown, with just a touch of red in the heart of the pour. The nose is roast & chocolate, but quiet. No barrel.
Cygnus X-1 – Barrel Aged has no barrel. Sure, there’s a sticker on it that says “Barrel Aged” or something, but it seems like they just stuck the sticker on & tripled the price. Great if you can get away with it. Roast, mild smokiness, bit of chocolate, though I don’t get the spicy rye of the original. Probably got stuck in the “barrel”. Smooth. Easy to drink.
Hey Flat Earth! You don’t make bad beer, but sticking this in stores at $20 a pop, & lacking any barrel, is embarrassing. You’re one of the granddaddies of the scene around here. Please act like one. Good beer, but could have been amazing.
