Growler poured into a pint glass.
A-Poured a very thick and frothy, creamy brown head, which retained strongly down to an attractive bubble layer. The beer is on the lighter side of black and opaque.
S-Smell is dominated by roasted malt and hints of chocolatey malts.
T-As with the aroma, heavy roast leads the flavor along, with choco-coffee character coming through. An oatmeal flavor/feel comes through as well. Hop characters are earthy. Finishes with a mottled chocolate aftertaste with earthy hints.
M-Medium-high carbonation feels a bit too strong for the style, but still has a creamy feel. Moderately thin body.
D-I like this brew. This is a tasty beer with enjoyable and complex flavors, while still remaining a drinkable and very smooth beer. I'll surely have to fill another growler with this quality beer.

Picked up a growler from the brewery and had it on tap. I believe this to be the base beer for their Black Helecopter coffee stout. Very dark, alomost black colour. Fine lively head with good retention. Minimal lacing. Aroma is of dark roasted malts with an earthy hop undercurrent. Flavour is of mild chocolate with a hint of coffee. Hop flavour is sparse but earthy. Bitterness is very smooth and lingers into the finish. Carbonation is a little high for the style but not overly done. The mouthfeel is not as smooth as I would expect from an oatmeal stout, perhaps a little more body would help. Overall not a bad beer. If it was a little less dry I would rate it higher. I would try this again.
