(Notes of 15/07/2007) Tasted by a half-pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield, served by a sparkler pull.
A: pours a dark copper colour with great clarity, coming with relatively low carbonation and a well-lasting beige creamy head.
S: burned sugar, hop resins, some traces of caramel, chocolate malts, and some lively touches of Golding hops(?)... In the background there are plentiful burned/toasted dark fruits.
T: the smooth foretaste is made of lots of roasted nuttiness from the dark malts with an aromatic aroma of freshly gristed malts and crushed chestnuts, while a lightly buttery edge is also at presence; the aftertaste continues with the nutty theme, backed by a Dark Mild-like herb-jelly-ish and brown-sugary tinge, while a roasty hint of malts also lingers.
M&D: light-bodied and "smoothly-refreshing" on the carbonation with an abundant support of microscopic fizziness, this malty bitter is easy-drinking and tasty, living up to this microbrewery's usual, high standard.
