A standard pale ale, clear when poured. Nose lacking compared to taste, a shame. But this was bottled and probably not fresh enough.
Bought in Booths Penrith.

500 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 4.8%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of fruity, floral and herbal hops. The flavour has a slight sweetness with a little fruit, followed by herbal hops. Fairly bitter finish.

L- Quite deep gold, clear, pours with 3mm white head that's clearing quite quickly. (Later it's just a ring).
S- It's quite subtle; I'm glad it's not a contemporary hop-bomb, surprising as Cascade hops usually yields more of a smell than this.
T- It's tastes contemporary, it has that citrus edge [quite sharp] that Cascade gives. The lable talks of 'punchy citrus and distinctive bitterness' - but it's done in a mature and balanced way.
M- Certainly refreshing, would suit a hot day hanging out in the park or garden.
O- Contemporary but in a decent and well crafted balanced way. I'm not a huge APA fan but I like this iteration as it's not OTT, not a hop-bomb, ie the kind of brew that leaves you wincing because it's trying to out hop-bomb it's peers.
Bought from a Waitrose supermarket in London at £1.80/500ml bottle. BBE Dec-19 (printed on neck of bottle).

From a 500ml bottle.
Pours a misty, dark gold/orange with light carbonation and a thin, off-white head that leaves no lacing.
Floral nose with orange marmalade in the background. Understated.
Taste is signature APA (citrus & pine), albeit not a hop-bomb by any means. Not too resiny.
Medium body with a bitter finish and a low level of carbonation. Smooth and dry, moreso than refreshing.
Overall, a decent pale ale made with Cascade and Centennial hops. It's a restrained APA but, at nearly 5% ABV, it's arguably too strong to be a session ale. So maybe falls between too stools?

A: Golden body. Lots of fizz. Small off-white head.
S: Floral hops. Not too strong though.
T: Dry, with that floral hops poking through. A hint of ginger ale. Not overly bitter. Very little malt character. Nice zingy citrus in the aftertaste.
O: This is an English bitter with American hops, not an 'American pale ale' as the label suggests. Would be ten times better on cask.

Delicate carbination with a touch of malt, but most of all, a huge wodge of cascade hopes dominating over the top. If that is what you like then this should make you content.

500ml bottle, poured into a tulip glass for initial tasting etc.
Look: Dark, golden yellow with a thin, bubbly white head which disappears to almost nothing fairly quickly. Yeah, it looks like lager ...
Smell: Sweet, slightly syrupy and malty with a slight metallic tang to it - with a name like 'Cascade Pale Ale' you'd at least expect some hop action on the nose but very little was forthcoming.
Taste: The hop bitterness is there but it's pretty one-dimensional - some malty overtones but it reminds me too much of a slightly inferior pilsner.
Feel: Flat, watery and generally pretty insipid - not helped by the overall taste, either.
Overall: Poor - Saltaire struck out with this one, I reckon. Admittedly, it was never going to be a hop bomb but it will easily go down as one of the blandest beers I've had recently. Intensely disappointing. Saltaire produce some good beers, but this isn't one of them.

Served cool from 500ml bottle into a pint mug.
A) Medium to light amber, a few bubbles, thin white bubbly film.
S) Slight burnt toffee malt and very very slight cascade hops.
T) Bitterness up front, then the cascade hop flavour follows. There is a subtle malty flavour but the bitterness overpowers it. A rubbery aftertaste.
M) Quite watery, but the carbonation is right. Rubbery and bitter aftertaste spoil it and I don't consider this to be refreshing.
O) Very disappointed as I remember this as being one of Saltaire's best beers. Maybe I got a duff bottle, so give it a go, it isn't expensive and Saltaire is a sound brewery.
