From a 500ml bottle.
Pours dark red/brown with no carbonation visible and a half finger of soapy, off-white head. Lots of lacing.
Coffee aroma. Sweet malts emerge after a swirl.
Hazelnut and caramel flavours. A hazelnut and caramel, iced, weak, black coffee anyone? Hmm. It's vaguely interesting, but is that a hazelnut syrup??
Light body with a haze of carbonation and a nice level of bitter dryness. Wish the body with a richer.
Somewhat odd beer. For a porter, there's not much chocolate to speak of. Plus it looks like an amber/red beer. Hazelnut flavour doesn't taste natural. A tad too sweet as well. The hazelnut flavouring adjunct dominates too much.

Pours a dark ruby hue with a non lasting two finger head and some sporadic lacing and on looks I'm not sold to be honest, the smell is chocolate eclairs and hazelnut along with dark fruits, the mouthfeel is light bodied and overcarbonated and the taste is quite sweet but it's not a real sweetness more like an additive of hazelnut than the real thing and I also get a tinge of red cordial which is bloody weird and it's finished with a dark fruitiness and overal no no no no no this is not for me considering a drain pour cheers.

A wonderful smelling porter to start, with a obvious hazelnut aroma. The mouth feel is that hit of guess what hazelnut with a smooth middle mouth feel followed by that kick of coffee after-taste. All of these flavours take a good half a pint or so to hit you but boy when they do your in for a real treat that your taste buds will be begging you for more. A solid 9/10
Cheers.

A great head of thick, creamy, lumpy beige foam that never fades, and a clear amber body that looks nothing like a porter. Hazelnut oil along with soap and brown malts on the nose. Toast, nut, and mulchy grain with leaf and spice hops to finish. Red currant finish and tingly linger. Thin, lively, clingy.
For starters, it's a big jump to call this a porter (unless you're pinning to some historical recipe.) Brown ale, maybe, and thin even then. Secondly, where's the coffee? If you're going to flavor a beer, which is chancy to start with, at least go whole hog. As it is, very little going on here.
Does not do what it says on the tin. Kick it up to a solid B+ if rated as an English brown ale.
Good reviews on this and "the other site" for it on cask, so I can only guess that it dies in the bottle. Shame.

Among all the guest ales sat around this (at the Saltaire Brewery festival might I add) this was my favourite of the show by far.
Just converted to trying dark beer and it's pretty much all down to this beer.
This isn't an understated beer, once you get it under the nose and try it on the palate it's everything you could possibly want from a hazelnut and coffee porter!

Served by gravity from cask at cellar temperature, a (generous) 10 oz serving into a 20 oz nonic pint.
Pours lightly with very little head and no lace. Medium brown mahogany color and crystal clear.
Aroma is nutty, with mild coffee hint and chocolately malt.
Taste is mellow, nutty, toasty and toffee sweet. Some coffee flavor but no hint of coffee bitterness. Lovely, soft, soothing flavor.
Fills the mouth with flavor, but is smooth and light with low bitterness. A bit too thin in the finish.
Drinkability is fantastic. More like a brown ale than a porter based on my limited experience, but that might be correct for the English style. Had this at NERAX 2008 and went back for several refills. It was my favorite beer of the show, and the only one I was inspired to review.
