A dandy stout. Full-bodied, and complex with all the requisites: malt, roast, chocolate, coffee, hops, and dark fruits. I have been to well over 200 brewpubs around the country (which, granted, is mostly an exercise in disappointment) and this is one of the very best standard stouts I have had. I suppose you would say it’s brewed in the American style – not at all dry, with a big aftertaste. The bartender couldn’t tell me anything about how it was brewed, but I assume it contains coffee, and perhaps chocolate, as adjuncts. Or perhaps it’s just a great job of concocting a grain bill that delivers all the goods. Either way, it was a treat.
