Darkish, peachy-honey hue, some yeast bits floating around, limited white head, soapy retention, some lace. Odd nose, too fruity (hint of sourness), the malt is hidden. On the palate the malt does shine, very tasty, the fruitiness is far subtler; the appearance of alcohol is striking yet appropriate. The hops bitterness is great. The finish is nicely bitter, a touch warming, moderately dry. Nicely done. The carbonation is low; the mouthfeel is smooth and satisfying, medium in body. I’d drink it again.

Slightly sweet malty aroma, has some roast qualities with some graininess, but also touch of honey to it. Pleasant. Rather flat pour, with poor head retention. Dark golden to brown color (maybe a little dark for style), mostly clear having some haviness from the yeast. Taste first reveals nice bite from richness of malt. Full malt flavor start to finish, starts to push the sweetness, but never excessive. Finish is medium long leaving malty dryness on the tongue. Ever so slight alcohol taste. Medium to full mouthfeel for both carbonation and texture, which adds to the richness of the drink. If one is down in Iowa City for the Hawkeyes, or any other event and this is available, give it a shot. A satisfying brew.

Cloudy amber in color with minimal head. The malty sweet aroma was quite appealing, however the flavor left something to be desired. The maltiness came through, however there was a grainy presence that I did not care for. The mouthfeel was nice...smooth with long lasting flavor. A refreshing and light beer.

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle, on the side is a blurb about the beer and how it is not filtered or pasturized. No freshness date to be found.

Appearance: Hazy orange amber in colour with a wonderful and well retaining lace.

Smell: Clean with a slight herbal / leafy nose from the hops, malt and alcohol are in the backround.

Taste: Very smooth with a light carbonation, rather big malty mouth feel with munich malt in the palate giving a lightly toasted flavour. Hop bitterness is spot on for style ... mild twang and a spicy bite from them. Touch of yeast, alcohol and sweet bread in the finish.

Notes: Very well done though the yeast did not settle too well on the bottom of the bottle which gave the brew a hazy apperance. Nice and malty with a hoppy and slightly alcoholic finish just what a Maibock should be.
