a really creative and delicious beer here, my first from these guys in way too long, but they dont really come around here the way they used to, which really bums me out, hopefully they make a return before too long, but this one is great, a fruited oud bruin with raspberries and cherries in it. i think they key here is that it starts with a great sour brown, some woody maturity and port wine character, likely fruity even without the fruit in it, a rich malt base of cocoa and molasses notes, toasted bread crusts, root beer, and red apple, lots going on, its complex already, but the fruit elevates it to the next level. i get the tang of the fruit in front of the sweet, both there in equal parts, but maybe a slight edge to the raspberry, which seems outrageously ripe here. some acid from the fruit works well with the lacto in the base beer, light fruit vinegar and red wine there, and even a lemon hit which is cool in a darker, maltier sour. the sourness doesnt break down the body at all, this still feels full and luxurious. some sweetness from the fruit too carries through the finish, lightening it up a bit, and adding a neat freshness against the obviously very mature base beer. some cool funk here too, not just a one dimensional sour thing, its complex and well developed. great beer, tons going on, havent seen a lot of fruited oud bruin types, but it makes a lot of sense.

375ml green bottle. Etched at bottom of bottle is 'BD 05 05 2018 Batch# 1016'.
Deep brown colored body. Just a brief appearance of an off white head. No lacing.
Aroma has cocoa and apple in the base, with the added fruit of unsweetened cherries and tart raspberries. Some grassy funk.
Taste has a brown ale base which has some port, dark bread, and green apple. The added cherries are sour and the raspberries are tart, but there is some sweetness also; the raspberry is more expressive than the cherry. Oak from the aging barrel process. Funk leather from the yeast. Mellow balance in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel, silky texture. Drying finish, and the tart level is considerable. Supportive carbonation.
Sipper sour/tart beer due to the complexity and chance to savor the layered components.

Super dark brown with plum edging, no head. Smell features green apple cider vinegar, dark cherry, raspberry, black currant, cocoa, and red wine, with subtle earthiness, wood, cola, and molasses. Taste is fruity and tart up front with the dark elements being the base and finishing slightly bitter and acidic. Really nice complexity for two thirds of the taste, raspberry and cherry carry the load in the finish with the green apple, red wine, and tangy earth. Feel is slightly acidic, tangy, tart, and earthy.
