Can from the Packie enjoyed at home. Pours a dark brown with faint garnet edges and a creamy tan head that persists. Dark roasted coffee and chocolate with bits of caramel and citrus to counter. Faint alcohol. Light warming alcohol burn. Creamy mouth bit beer. Boy that blurs the stout or porter and black ipa line. Pretty tasty sipper.

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 13.49%. Black colour, moderate and creamy tan head. Aroma of roast malts, burnt breadcrumbs and liquorice. Rich and warming mouthfeel. Flavour of roast malts, not too sweet, distinct notes of liquorice. Moderate bittering hops in the finish.

L: jet black body, thin brown head
S: interesting nose, hinting at orange zest, earthy funk?, coffee, pine/spruce, roasted barley
T: brown sugar, roasted barley, ash, orange zest, dark roast coffee, pine, spruce, anise, baker’s dark chocolate
F: medium body, ample carbonation, alcohol is warming, pungently bitter finish with spruce & pine lingering with some roast
O: I probably would not have bought this knowing what I know now about the band 1349, but my curiosity got the best of me given the weird ingredients and I wanted to try it. It’s uniquely good and surprisingly the additions of coffee, orange, and spruce don’t ruin it for me. With that being said, it is still quite an odd beer and I’d pass on it if I came across it again.
