On tap at the brewpub. Poured into a tulip and left with almost no head; not sure if this is the beer's fault or the server's. Opaque black thin-looking body with a thin cover of moka-coloured head. Some lacing. Head retention could be better.
Lack of head follows with a lack of smell: light roast, chocolate and toffee with some piny hops. Presence could definitely be increased.
Flavour is on the light side too for something as badass looking on a menu as a double black IPA called Black Jesus. This thing should be intense. Some pine and grapefruit, light roast and a bit of smoke. Alcohol is a bit hot. Grapefruit pith on the finish.
The body is definitely too thin. Watery with low carbonation; not too fitting a feel here.
The feel is pretty distracting but the beer isn't too great anyway. Had to try this one; Black Jesus double black IPA, how could I resist? There's bound to be something better on the menu at Saint Bock, I'd say skip this one.
