Not retired! Seasonal now.

A: dark brown with thin tan head

S: A little sweetness with a bit of caramel and hops

T: Upfront very good with malt, caramel, maybe a little licorice.

M: This is what killed it for me. Very smokey, almost to the point of cigarette. Dry mouthfeel with a taste/smell that I had just eaten a cigarette!

O: Maybe give it a try but the mouthfeel just killed it for me.

A dark brown, nearly opaque pint full with a thin head that became a spotty lace very quickly. The aroma is pretty weak but I detected a little licorice. The taste brings home a litle more licorice mixed with carmel/malty overtones. It's a bitter sweet brew that has a smokey finish that would make this less of beer to drink in quantity. The body is thin but the finishing taste is not rewarding to me. Worth a try but the IPA & porter at Half Moon are far superior, especially the porter.

Presentation: Arrives in a standard pint glass. Offered to me as a pint or a pilsner. I am assuming the pilsner is just a bigger glass. Menu describes it as, "This American style Brown Ale has a deep reddish-brown color and roasted malt and caramel-like flavors with a well balanced hop finish. Another easy beer to drink that's a bit more bold."

Apperance: Arives with about 1/4 inch of light tan head. Falls qucikly to a thin coarting with a small amount of lacing. The beer itself is clear and more red than brown. Lighter than most brown ales.

Smell: Sweet, caramel malt aroma with a hint of hops in the finish.

Taste: Upfront caramel, slightly toasty malts. This transitions into a lingering malt finish with medium hop bitterness. Slightly sweet, bubblegum-like undertones.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation, but almost an acidic prickly feel on the tongue. Body is thin.

Drinkability: A little weak overall. Bitterness is there, but not the full flavor I expect froma brown ale.
