Stopped by after a long class. Was offered different beers for free, basically got a flight for free but decided on this one. Very dark with about a finger and a half creamy tan head. First impressions reminded me of Guinness but after the back it was a lot smoother and less bitter...which is neither good or bad. Mouthfeel was just fine and went down very smooth.
Overall a pretty average porter but still much better than the big names just because it is brewed in my hometown!

Pours to a super dark brown, almost black in color body. hosts a milk chocolate soft toned head that has decent staying power for being poured out of a growler. Nose has a very warm chocolate feel with backround tones of meaty, smokey malt. Enters the mouth with a well rounded toasty richness and slight hint of coco. There is a static like hue that is created in the mouth by the zesty, spicey, toffee like mouthfeel. This beer teams solid drinkability with nice even boldness. It does come of a little dirty on the end of the palate though, aht may be from the mineral feel.

The beer was on tap at the Brew-Pub. I saw the brewery on a 4 hour trip back to school and it was a sight for sore eyes.
Appearance: Dark, almost pitch black.
Smell: malty, with a hint of alcohol (ABV around 7.5%)
Taste: Hint of coffee and maybe molasses. smooth and easy to drink
Overall Impression: Pretty solid brew and a great staff at the brewpub.

My pint glass was a solid black, no signs of transmission through this brew, mysteriously inviting. A thin but stubborn bubbly tan head. The aroma is mild but gets me thinking chocolate, and mildly hoppy. Pleasant. The first mouthful is velvety with fine carbonation that holds a lively feel throughout the pint. There are some apple and grape highlights that add an interesting complexity to this otherwise stalwart offering. This seems to be the heavy favorite among the regulars at the brewpub and is a very drinkable choice for such a tastey libation. Don't visit the Half Moon without trying this one!
