Pours from the growler creating a tan head of soft scattered bubbles that fade to just a skim in a matter of minutes. Body is a deep murky brown with hints of reddish amber on the edges of the glass. Nose softly tempts of red licorice, apples, and mineral notes. On first sip you get slight tartness that gives way quickly to sweet malt. Rich nutty mineral tones are all are the back of the tongue and create a nice mouthfeel. A little watery in the body of the palate. Finishs with a lingering mineral sweet thinness. Quite drinkable overall, but really lacks any complex developed qualities.

A copper-red brew with just a vague head. I detect no aroma of note. Taste hits me as less sweet and more yeasty than I expect from a red ale. It's tart and kind of harsh in the bitter aftertaste. I notice a little malt after a few tastes but the flavor still leans to the wheat, dry cereal flavor with kind of a harsh finish for a red, I think. Generally OK, nothing regrettable, definitely worth a try as long as you don't miss out on their Cole Porter and IPA varieties before you leave!
